3D archery shoot, chili cook-off Sunday at Lovewell
WEBBER -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks at Lovewell State Park is sponsoring a chili cook-off and 3D archery shoot on Sunday. The 3-D archery shoot will be from 9-11 a.m. Participants will compete in divisions for men, women and youth. A $10 donation is suggested to enter.

Chili cook-off on the agenda
The La Jolla Republican Women will hold a Chili Cook-Off, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 at their next meeting at the home of Barbara Hench, 7856 La Jolla Vista steer. Nine "chili masters" will prepare their specialties and the cook who collects most votes (quarter in the jar) wins the cook-off. Tickets are $25 through Bette Wood at (858) 459-7248. The reservation deadline is Sept. 14.

Chili Super Bowl: 90 vie for honors in Buffalo Gap
David and Kay Lefler of Squeals on Wheels cooking team were every smiles Sunday, a day after they captured first place for their tasty chili. Sunday was the last day of the 29th Annual Chili Super Bowl. About 90 cookers vied for trophies and prize money during the event held at the Old Settlers Reunion Grounds in Buffalo Gap.
